As of late yesterday, September 2, at 3:25 PM, Governor Deval Patrick has declared a State of Emergency for the entire state of Massachusetts. Hurricane Earl will likely produce high winds, heavy rain, and coastal storm surge. Impacts from Hurricane Earl have the capacity to cause flooding, widespread power outages, and debris-removal challenges for portions of the state.
Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has offered personal preparedness tips for all citizens in the Commonwealth. “Every home and business should have a stocked emergency supply kit that could be used for any emergency, regardless of the time of year,” states MEMA Acting Director Kurt Schwartz. “Everyone should keep certain items around the house and workplace in the event you are isolated for three to five days without power.” Read the rest of this entry »

Thanks to United States Air Force performers, local audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy two free, fun, family-friendly concerts at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Tops in Blue, the Air Force’s international touring company, will be playing at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium on Wednesday, September 1, at 7:00 PM. The Band of Liberty, a touring band based at Hanscom Air Force Base, will be playing on Sunday, October 3, at 3:00 PM.

Dave Alpar told the Lowell Sun. “It’s comprised of doctors, pilots, airmen, and others, all amateurs who audition for spots in the company, are selected for their ability to entertain, then tour the world for a year, doing the show.”
Alpar commands and conducts the Band of Liberty, one of 13 regional bands located at Air Force bases around the nation. They’re comprised of professional musicians, all Air Force personnel, whose full-time jobs are to perform. Read the rest of this entry »

Last year the team consisted of over 50 people and raised over $45,000.
A 2006 Andover High School graduate, Lauren went on to Bentley College and had plans on transferring to Villanova University in the fall of 2007, when the grim health news was delivered. She was diagnosed with Sacroma cancer in July of 2007. She enjoyed playing field hockey and softball and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. Lauren was the kind of person who always put others before herself. She had a warm heart and was very ambitious. Read the rest of this entry »
