Hispanic Week Festival In Lawrence Signals Start to Summer Entertainment

With summer officially upon us, cities and towns throughout the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire are hosting events for affordable family fun. The season’s schedule of family events that pair education with entertainment kicked off this weekend with a 32-year tradition in Lawrence: the Hispanic Week Festival.

The weekend of events celebrating Latino culture and history began June 18 at Campagnone Common and ran throughout the weekend. Event goers were treated to traditional dancing, authentic Latin and Caribbean cuisine, and talented musicians celebrating the distinct musical sounds of salsa and merengue styles. Featured performers included Eddy Rivera, Rudy Perez, Alexandra and Rickey Castro, and Carolina la O.

Local groups including dancers from the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lawrence added to the live entertainment with performances throughout the festivities. Highlighting the weekend’s happenings was a parade that began at Polartec and streamed through the city streets en route to the common.

The Eagle Tribune covered the parade and its unique importance this year to local residents.
