Lowell Walk for Hunger Scheduled for April 22

The 29th annual Greater Lowell Walk for Hunger is scheduled for Good Friday, April 22 at St. Mark’s Church, located at 75 Cold Spring Road in Westford. The 13-mile walk will help provide local community centers and shelters with food for those in need.

Donations raised from this year’s Walk for Hunger will go toward the Merrimack Valley Food Bank Mobile Pantry, the Lowell Transitional Living Center, Alternative House, the House of Hope and The Open Pantry of Greater Lowell. The 13 miles are two scenic loops through Chelmsford and Westford, which start and finish at St. Mark’s Church.

Local students have Friday, April 22 off from school and organizers encourage any students interested in the Annual Walk to bring their friends, fellow students, parents and neighbors to help raise donations. Additionally, for students who are required to complete community service or self-enrichment projects, the Walk for Hunger is an excellent means of fulfilling this requirement.

Last year’s Walk for Hunger raised $25,000 and this year organizers look to top that, setting the goal at $30,000 for 2011. Registration is required and participants are encouraged to ask local businesses to donate. Walkers are asked to collect donations in advance, which should be brought on the morning of the event, which starts at 8 a.m. Those who bring $125 or more in donations will receive a Walk for Hunger t-shirt.

To make a donation, please print the Greater Lowell Walk for Hunger webpage and mail the page and an enclosed donation to:
