With the summer heat continuing to climb, one group is bringing a little bit of holiday spirit to a crowd who could really use it. The Leominster Veterans Center will be hosting a special “Christmas in July” event on Thursday, July 21. Located at 100 West Street in Leominster, the Leominster Veterans Center is partnering with the American Family Link to create meaningful care packages for service men and women currently overseas.
The care packages contain everything from snack food to personal items and toiletries, hand balls and Frisbees, even disposable cameras to capture their stay. These care packages make a tremendous impact in the lives of the men and women who receive them. Frequently, package recipients will write back to the American Family Link and the group then posts their letters of gratitude on its website.
A number of donors have come through for this year’s “Christmas in July” and have fully-stocked the event; however, organizers are in great need of volunteers for tomorrow’s event. Those who have signed up their loved one to receive a care package are strongly encouraged to join the Leominster Veterans Center and American Family Link. Interested parties are asked to show up at the Leominster Veterans Center at 7 p.m. to assist.
Anyone who is interested in signing up their loved one for a care package is asked to contact the Leominster Veterans Center at 978-534-7538 to submit a current address for the recipient.
