Fundraiser for Injured Chelmsford Teacher

February 3, 2012
7:00 pmto10:00 pm

A fundraiser party will be held on February 3 at Princeton Station for McCarthy Middle School teacher Tom Gallagher who ruptured a herniated disk in his spine during the holiday season and became paralyzed. As he returns home, many challenges await, not the least of which is the daunting task of paying for costly medical bills and home renovations to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. The fundraising event will begin at 7 p.m. featuring light refreshments, live entertainment, raffles and a silent auction.

Gallagher currently teaches 8th grade Algebra at McCarthy Middle School. He also coaches hockey, football and lacrosse at Chelmsford High School. Since his injury, Chelmsford residents have rallied to support his cause. Construction crews have diligently worked in preparation for Gallagher’s return by installing hardwood floors, adjusting the width of doors and installing ramps. The Gallagher family has limited funds to pay for the extensive home renovations on top of the medical bills, so all proceeds from this event will go towards helping the family alleviate the financial strain.

Currently, the auction has several big-ticket items, including a Maine camping trip weekend and a $399 iRobot. Tickets for the fundraiser can be purchased at McCarthy Middle School in the main office, or through Tom Sousa at sousat@chelmsford.k12.ma.us. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple. Princeton Station can be found at 147 Princeton St. in North Chelmsford.
