Photo Safaris with the Essex National Heritage Commission

Essex National Heritage Photo SafariThis summer, join the Essex National Heritage Commission and Hunt’s Photo and Video for the Essex National Heritage Area Photo Safari Program!  This fun-filled program allows both amateur and experienced photographers to test out different camera equipment and receive personalized coaching by technical experts from Hunt’s Photo and Video while photographing the scenic and historic Essex National Heritage Area in Northeast Massachusetts. The first two photo safaris in this program take place on Saturday, June 16 and Saturday, June 30.

The Photo Safari featuring Sigma on June 16 will take place at the historic Maritime Gloucester from 8 AM to 12 PM. Hunt’s will provide lenses and lens mounts manufactured by Sigma, but participants will need to bring their own cameras for this event. Capture panoramic views of Ten Pound Island, Rocky Neck, and the State Fish Pier, as well as an ever changing parade of boats and the oldest continuously operating marine railway in the country.

The Photo Safari featuring Tamron on June 30 will take place at the scenic Lawrence Heritage State Park and the North Canal Historic District from 8 AM to 12 PM.  Hunt’s will provide lenses and lens mounts manufactured by Tamron, but participants will need to bring their own cameras for this event. Explore and capture the architectural details of Lawrence’s industrial-era mills, the gates, locks and bridges of the canal, as well as the historic Great Stone Dam on this fun-filled safari.

The Essex National Heritage Commission was founded in 1996 and dedicates itself to preserving and promoting the history, culture and resources of the Essex National Heritage Area, a 500-square-mile area that includes many important historical sites in Northeast Massachusetts. The organization accomplishes its goals by forming partnerships with the community and by providing grants for local organizations that focus on a certain aspect of preservation and history. They hold many events to raise money for these grants and to encourage people in the community to enjoy the historic sites of the Essex National Heritage Area.

Reservations are required to attend the photo safari, so buy your tickets in advance. For Essex Heritage members, the cost is $35 and for nonmembers, tickets are $45. For more information, please call (978) 740-0444 or visit the Essex Heritage website.
